Fire Suppression
Firefighters are required to attend a certified fire academy or get their training from the Depts training officer. We encourage members to get FF I, FF II, Haz-Mat operation and several technical rescue certifications.

Rescue
Vehicle and machinery extrication and entanglement constitutes the majority of our rescue operations. Water rescues are also common.

Emergency Medical Services
EMS provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) services in critical situations to ensure the best patient care for our community. Most of our providers are volunteer EMTs with a full-time ALS provider on staff. The FIFD Medical Director provides on island support as well.

Emergency Management
Fishers Island, is within the 10-mile Emergency Planning Zone (EPZ) of the Millstone Power Station located in Waterford, CT. In the case of a radiological incident, FIFD has responsibility to activate the public alerting system and implement all protective action decisions.
