FIFD Welcomes New Members

The Fishers Island Fire Department welcomes new adult members to join the ranks as a firefighter, EMT or Sea Stretcher crew member. The August 1, 2023 membership meeting included the swearing in of two new members:

Jamie duPont Collingham was sworn in as a FIFD EMT by FIFD Chief Jeff Edwards. She has volunteered to serve with the FIFD EMTs when she is on island. Off season she serves on the New Canaan, CT EMT squad. Jamie became a member of the New Canaan EMTs in March 2022 and is now a 3rd generation member of the Fishers Island Fire Department, following in the footsteps of her father Reynold duPont, Jr., her aunt Kandi Sanger, and her cousin Penn Sanger, all of whom are life members of this department.

Benjamin Edwards was sworn in by his father Chief Edwards as the 1st Junior Firefighter in the FIFD. This new program was approved last month and will be a huge asset to the department and the junior members as they come on board. Benjamin, a rising senior at Fishers Island School, is the 4th generation in the Fishers Island Fire Department joining Chief Jeff Edwards, his grandfather Donnie Edwards, and his great grandfather Perry Edwards, all of whom were also life members in the FIFD.
