Sea Stretcher Marathon 2021

After missing last year due to COVID 19, the Sea Stretcher Marathon returned in 2021, although in a reduced format, on Sunday, May 30 at 9:00 AM

Here are the registered first-place finishers. No adults qualified for the one-mile race so the under 12’s are listed there:

1 mile: Griffin Yurkerwich and Margot Addy
3 mile: Jason Roeder and Maddie Lusker
5 mile: Andrew Benkard and Lizzie Boswell
8 mile: Dexter Benkard and Meris Enright

The Fire Department thanks all participants who braved the rainy, cold morning to help raise funds for Sea Stretcher. You are all winners!

Donations to the Sea Stretcher may be made out to the
Fishers Island Fire Department with Sea Stretcher
noted in the check Memo and mailed to
FIFD, PO Box 123, Fishers Island, NY 06390.

Due to ongoing concerns about COVID and the safety of our participants, the Fishers Island Fire Department was unable to provide transportation to the starting points, so runners in the three, five, or eight-mile categories arranged their own way to get there in time for the 9:00 AM start.

There was no day-of-race registering at the firehouse. Participants completed an entry form and returned it to the Fire Department by Saturday, May 29 via email or snail mail to the address below.

Entry forms were available here (click buttons above), at the Post Office bulletin board, or by emailing [email protected].  A number was assigned to each entrant and passed to them at each race’s starting point.  Runners who did not pre-register participated unofficially.

I’d personally like to thank everyone who sent in donations last year, even though we did not have a race. The Sanger Sea Stretcher Marathon has always been a major source of funds used to operate and maintain Sea Stretcher.

In advance, thanks for your understanding and contributions this year. Let’s all hope that by 2022, we’ll be able to go back to normal!

Thank you and stay safe,

Dave Denison
