Wildland 3: The Future FIFD Engine 3
The time has come for the Fishers Island Fire District to purchase a new truck to service the island’s needs. There are so many options to choose from. After much research, a trip to Indiana to speak with the experts, and seeing and experiencing the models in person, a decision has been made on ‘the one.’
The Wildland 3 by iTurri will meet the district’s needs and replace Rescue 3, a brush truck that has been in service since it was purchased decades ago.
This truck is used as the district attack truck, which responds to most fire alarms and is generally the first on the scene with the ambulance and paramedic vehicles when an accident occurs.
Our current attack truck is agile enough to easily access many of Fishers Island’s small roads and driveways. Still, it lacks the water storage and pumping ability to fight a fire adequately.
Our small fleet of vehicles is aging out. Our oldest truck is from 1972, while our newest is a 2007. In 2024, the Fire District spent over $50,000 on repairs and maintenance to keep the trucks in service, significantly impacting the operating budget provided via the Fire District tax dollars.
To ease the burden on the taxpayers, the District is starting a Vehicle Replacement Fund. Our first priority will be to assist with the cost of replacing our Rescue 3 attack truck with this Wildland 3 (to be named FIFD Engine 3) as soon as possible while saving to upgrade other vehicles in the coming years.
Please make a donation today to ensure this vehicle finds its way to the Fishers Island Fire District. Checks may be made out to the Fishers Island Fire District with FIFD Engine 3 in the Memo line and mailed to:
